What is the Water Board Regulation?

On January 1, 2024, the Environment Act came into force, followed by the Water Board Regulation of the Noorderzijlvest Water Board on January 2. In the Water Board Regulation, the water board describes, among other things, the rules for carrying out the most common activities in our management area. We do this by specifying in the rules when the activity is permitted. The rules for the maintenance of surface water bodies, storage areas, flood defenses (dikes), (supporting) engineering structures (such as weirs and pumping stations), and purification works are also included in the Water Authority Regulation.

Why is the Water Authority Regulation being updated?

The purpose of the update is to improve the quality of legal rules, to correct minor (linguistic) errors, and to simplify the rules and obligations for our customers and the implementation process.

What is being changed?

The amendments that take effect immediately are mainly textual and editorial improvements and corrections of errors. Minor substantive changes that will have little or no negative impact are also included. In addition, there are a number of changes that will only take effect once the general board approves them later this year. These are changes that may have more substantive consequences, such as reintroducing a permit requirement (instead of a notification requirement) for filling in and digging ditches.
