Clean and healthy water

We monitor the quality of surface water: fewer pesticides, more space for plants and (aquatic) animals, and nature-friendly maintenance. We do this in collaboration with farmers and organizations that manage land.

Measures for clean and healthy water

We are taking many measures to improve the quality of surface water. The basis for this lies in the Water Framework Directive.

Space for fish

Fish stocks are a good indicator of water quality. Fish must be able to migrate.

Nature-friendly banks

Plants can grow on gently sloping banks. These banks improve conditions for fish and small aquatic animals.

Mowing of watercourses

We mow regularly and carefully to improve water inflow and outflow.

Combating exotic species

The giant water pennywort has been present in our area since 2014. We are combating this rampant plant because it obstructs the flow of water.

Dredging of watercourses

Silt causes the bottom of watercourses to rise higher watercourses . We clear this away from time to time.

Swimming water

The water authority 17 official swimming locations. We carry out inspections there, together with the province.

Blue-green algae

When it is warm, blue-green algae can develop. They are toxic, so pay attention to warnings!

Farmers lend a hand

The agricultural sector contributes to reducing the amount of crop protection products that end up in the water. And there are regulations that help with this.

Working towards better soil

Good soil structure helps retain water. This is becoming increasingly important.
