Climate and sustainability

Our climate is changing. And that means a lot. We are increasingly faced with long periods of heat, precipitation deficits, and drought, but also with torrential downpours and flooding due to prolonged rain. Climate change requires a joint effort by governments, businesses, and residents.

Climate change

We are responding to climate change as best we can. These changes are now happening faster than before, so we need to adapt. We are doing this in a variety of ways.

Dry feet 2050

The 'Dry Feet 2050' project investigated what measures we need to take to limit flooding by 2050. The provinces and water boards are jointly responsible for these measures.

Cluster showers and flooding

If there is a lot of rainfall in a short period of time, flooding can occur. We do our best to limit this, but it is not always possible. Flooding can be caused by heavy rain, downpours, or high groundwater levels.

Sustainable working

We also want to help prevent climate change as much as possible. That is why we use energy consciously and work as sustainably as possible.

CO2 policy

Our goal is to become climate neutral. This means that the energy we use will be balanced by the energy we generate ourselves in a sustainable manner.

The circular water authority

The Noorderzijlvest Water Authority is committed to a circular economy. Many raw materials are scarce and finite. That is why we want to reuse these raw materials as much as possible.

Water innovation

We are constantly looking for new ways to do our work better, more cheaply, and more sustainably. For us, innovation is not an end in itself. It is a means to achieve our goals.
