Permits, reports, and enforcement

You can apply for a permit or report an activity on the Environment and Planning Portal. It is no longer possible to apply for a permit directly from the water authority. 

The Environment and Planning Act has been in force since 1 January 2024. As of this date, the water authority has been working with the Water-Authority Regulation. This regulation specifies which rules apply to activities that may affect our work. The Permit Check helps you to determine what is required.

Permit check

With the Permit Check, you can quickly check whether you need to apply for a permit or submit a notification for your work.

Apply for a permit

Sometimes a permit is required for activities in, on, above, or near dykes, watercourses, groundwater, and surface-water systems. You can apply for this on the Environment and Planning Portal.

Report activity

In many cases, reporting a planned activity is sufficient. After reporting, you will usually receive our decision within two weeks. You can report your activity on the Environment and Planning Portal.

Enforcement

We check whether individuals and companies comply with our regulations and their duty of care.

What is the Environment and Planning Act?

As of 1 January 2024, there has been a single act that regulates everything related to the space in which we live and work: the Environment and Planning Act. This new act applies to all residents and businesses in the Netherlands.
