For many activities near dykes, water, and groundwater, you need a permit or you have to submit a notification. You can submit a notification for all kinds of activities in, on, above, or near dykes, watercourses, groundwater, and surface-water systems online on the government's Environment and Planning Portal.

Who has to report an activity?

Not sure whether you need to apply for a permit or submit a notification? Use the Permit Check to check whether you need a permit or need to submit a notification. Mark the location of the work as accurately as possible.

Activities that require mandatory reporting include:

  • Extract groundwater
  • Erect scaffolding
  • Dam with culvert
  • Cables and pipes
  • Discharge into surface water

What do you need?

The information you need depends on what you are planning to do. You can find this in the Environment and Planning Portal.
