Perform a permit check
For many activities near dykes, water, and groundwater, you need a permit or you have to submit a notification.
Who can perform the permit check?
If you are unsure whether you need to apply for a permit or submit a notification, you can use the permit check.
What do you need?
Gather information in advance about, for example:
- Location and size
- Volume and surface-area measurements
- Usage functions
How does it work?
You can use the government's online Environment and Planning Portal for an instant check of whether you need a permit for all kinds of activities in, on, above, or near dykes, watercourses, groundwater, and surface-water systems. Examples of activities include:
- Extract groundwater
- Discharge into surface water
- Ditch filling
- Constructing a dam or a culvert
- Erect scaffolding
- Installing sheet piling
- Irrigation
The check takes about five minutes per activity.
How does the procedure work?
After the permit check, you can proceed with applying for a permit or submitting a notification on the Environment and Planning Portal.
