The organisation

With over 300 people, we carry out our daily water-management work. We do this for everyone. Working together with residents and other organisations is becoming more and more important.

Around 120 of more than 300 colleagues work visibly in the field or are employed at our treatment plants or workshops. Approximately 180 people work at our head office in Groningen to prepare sustainable water management. To be ready for climate change. To work towards a world where water plays a leading role. And to contribute to the plans of others. Because it is no longer possible to do water-management work on your own, nor do we want to. We desperately need our environment. To keep our work feasible and affordable.

Core tasks

We work on the basis of our core tasks to ensure safe, clean, healthy, treated, and sufficient water.

The work of the water authority is also changing. There is more to it than just our important core tasks:

  • We seize opportunities to create added value for the entire environment of our residents and entrepreneurs. Even when it's not just about water.
  • We are a valued partner for other government agencies, lobby groups, nature-reserve managers, farmers, neighbouring water authorities, drinking-water companies, and the business community.
  • We know the water in our region. Our residents know the area just as well. We are increasingly discussing the role of water and its impact on daily life.
  • We do not only consider technical solutions for water management. We increasingly focus on the natural values of the area to develop sustainable and robust water management solutions. At times, that means that technical interventions remain necessary.

We are working on a future-proof area: with robust work on water, with customisation, and with each other.
