Water in the schoolyard learning portal
The teaching method 'Water in the schoolyard' makes pupils aware of flood risks and waterlogging in their own environment. What makes this method unique is its regional and local approach. Digital maps play a major role and virtual fieldwork assignments are offered, giving pupils even better insight into the functioning and challenges of the water system.
The teaching method can be supplemented with a guest lecture by an expert from the water board in the classroom or an excursion.
Democracy game
Noorderzijlvest offers a guest lesson with an interactive game about democracy and the choices made by a water board. In the game, students take on the role of a water board and make decisions. The game is very suitable for a social studies lesson. The lesson can be taught by an expert from the water board, but teachers can also teach the lessons themselves.
Water trail
During the Water Learning Trail, secondary school students learn about the water board and the role of water. In the accompanying practical lesson, they take to the water in a raft boat. This allows them to conduct experiments in biology, geography, and physics. The Water Learning Trail can be requested from the Noorderzijlvest water board. There is only limited space available for this practical lesson each year.
Teaching materials for vocational education
The work of the water authorities touches on many (green) vocational education programs. That is why teaching materials have been developed for vocational education. Students, teachers, and other interested parties can use these materials free of charge.
In addition to general information about the water authorities, the Waterschappen.nl website focuses specifically on the theme of climate adaptation. Making cities and agricultural areas climate-proof requires the help of all residents. That is why the teaching materials include many examples of ideas for and by the neighborhood. Water authority employees share their experiences of working at the water authority and encourage students to contribute their ideas.
Democracy game
