Are you going to do this?

We are looking for a new colleague to join the Sea Barrier Management and Maintenance team, who will help keep our dykes, ditches, and watercourses top condition. You will work independently in your own area, with a wide variety of tasks and the freedom to work autonomously.


Would you like to work on and around the dyke a view of the water and the seasons as part of your working day? Then read on.

And furthermore:
As a flood defences watercourses employee, you watercourses daily to maintain our dykes ditches. You will ensure that everything continues to function properly, so that we keep our feet dry and nature can take its course.

Your work will be varied: from mowing the sea dyke machines (including a robotic mower) to cutting reeds or dredging ditches. Manual tasks are also part of the job, such as controlling moles and mice, removing weeds, or repairing a drinking trough for sheep.

You manage your own area for which you are fully responsible. You work largely independently and often alone, outdoors and with a great deal of freedom. You know your section dyke no other and play a crucial role in ensuring safety, especially during storms.

You will also maintain contact with tenants and residents in your region. And although you will usually be working alone, you will be in regular contact with colleagues and the rest of the organisation via telephone or tablet. You will perform small-scale maintenance on your equipment and assist with inspections of watercourses flood defences.

In short: an independent, solo, and meaningful position in which you work outdoors, roll up your sleeves, and contribute to the safety of everyone in the area.

This is what we ask of you

As a maintenance worker, you will work independently in your own area. You know what is going on, keep a close eye on the environment, and notice immediately when something changes. At the same time, you are not on your own: you interact easily with colleagues, residents, or tenants and know how to communicate clearly and pleasantly. You have an eye for what you do and how it affects the environment, now and in the future. Even when something unexpected happens, you adapt quickly and get to work in a practical and solution-oriented manner. And you are flexible when the organisation for adjustments in your work, for example in the area of sustainability.

In addition, you have:

  • Vocational education (MBO) working and thinking level, specializing in all-round civil engineering or an agricultural background.
  • You have a BE/tractor driver's license. You have relevant work experience with machines (tractor and/or low-center-of-gravity tractor).
  • You have knowledge of safety regulations (VCA) and procedures in the field of maintenance plans.
  • You have an affinity with nature and agricultural work.
  • You are willing to take additional training/courses.
  • You are digitally literate.

This is what we offer you

  • A versatile position in the region , where you will work with a committed team and contribute to an organisation a social mission.
  • Initially, a fixed-term contract (1 year). If you prove yourself suitable, we will be happy to convert your employment contract to a permanent contract.
  • A competitive salary of up to €3,784 gross per month (salary scale 6) for 36 hours per week.
  • On top of your gross salary, you will receive 21% IKB. You can have this paid out or use it in another way, for example to purchase extra leave.
  • A pension plan with the ABP pension fund.
  • Employees up to the age of 35 are entitled to a budget of at least €12,000 upon request. Employees over the age of 35 are entitled to €6,000, which they can spend on training, development, and career advancement over a period of five years.
  • Home base with compensation for business trips of €0.39 per km.

Where will you be working?
As a maintenance worker, you will be working in the Water System Maintenance and Water Safety South team in the Water Systems and Water Safety process. The Maintenance South team consists of approximately 35 employees. Our region divided into two districts: North and South. Maintenance employees are expected to be willing to region the entire region . The work associated with this position mainly takes place on and around the sea dyke.

The Noorderzijlvest Water Authority is located in a unique area where subsidence by natural gas extraction and earthquakes significantly affects water management.
