Once again, closure of dyke passages due to high water levels

During the night of Sunday, February 6 to Monday, February 7, we will once again be dealing with high tide at sea. Rijkswaterstaat predicts a water level of NAP +3.20m in Delfzijl at around 3:50 a.m. This means that the dyke passages coupures) in Delfzijl will be closed.

Coupures close on Sunday evening

We will start closing at midnight on Sunday evening. This means that the port of Delfzijl will be temporarily closed. Traffic will be diverted using signs. Once the water has receded sufficiently and the road is clear of water, the roads will be reopened. The Delfzijl copuures always close when the expected sea level is NAP + 3m or higher. We carry out these closures in collaboration with our colleagues from the Hunze en Aa’s water authority .

Multiple closures

This is the third closure of the dyke passages Delfzijl in the past 10 days. Last weekend, the closures lasted for two consecutive cycles due to high water levels. This happened again last week. The cause is a persistent wind from the (north)west.
