The Noorderzijlvest Water Authority processes personal data for the purpose of performing statutory and public tasks. We ensure that your personal data is used in accordance with privacy legislation, the General Data Protection Regulation, and only for the purposes for which you have provided it. This privacy statement explains how the water authority deals with your data.

Use of personal data by the water authority

We sometimes use personal data to carry out our work. This includes, for example, granting permits, supervising and enforcing regulations, carrying out work on or via your plots of land, providing compensation, or dealing with opinions.

  • At the start of the work, you will always be informed of the processing of your data, the purpose, and your rights.
  • We do not make your personal data available and do not use it for automated decision-making.

The following personal data may be recorded or processed:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Home address
  • Citizen service number (BSN)
  • The cadastral data
  • Phone number
  • Email address

Your rights

You have a number of rights when the water authority uses your personal data.

  • Right to withdraw personal data: you have the right to withdraw your previously given consent for the processing of personal data.
  • Right to be informed: you have the right to ask why your personal data is needed, what happens to it, and how long it is stored.
  • Right of access: you have the right to know what personal data the water authority holds about you.
  • Right to rectification: you have the right to supplement, correct, delete, or restrict your personal data whenever you wish.
  • Right to be forgotten: after giving permission to the water authority process your data, you have the right to have your personal data erased.
  • Right to transfer your data: you have the right to request your personal data from the organisation (e.g., the water authority) and transfer it to another organisation.
  • Right to object: you have the right to object to the water authority processing your data. We will comply with this request unless there are legitimate grounds for processing that data.

When you submit your request, it is important that we can verify your identity. This ensures that only you can request your data. To do this, we ask you to:

  • Send us a copy of your ID. Your name and date of birth must be clearly legible. You may obscure your citizen service number (BSN).
  • State the purpose of your request on the copy, for example, the deletion of your data.

What can you expect from us?

If you wish to exercise your rights, you will receive a response within one month. In some cases, the response period may be extended by up to two months. However, you will always receive a response to your question, report, or complaint.

Duties and responsibilities of the water authority

  • We have a duty to treat your personal data with care and confidentiality and to protect it in the best possible way against unauthorised access (hackers) or unlawful use.
  • Your personal data will not be used for any other purposes.
  • In cases where we are required to do so, we will inform you of the use of your data and, where necessary, we will ask for your consent before your personal data is processed.
  • We take the necessary security measures and apply security procedures to protect your personal data. Employees of the water authority have a duty of confidentiality. Access to personal data is only granted to authorised employees.
  • We do not retain your personal data any longer than necessary for the proper performance of our tasks and compliance with statutory obligations, as set out in the Public Records Act, the General Data Protection Regulation, or other relevant legislation.
  • We will not disclose your personal data to other organisations without your consent, unless the water authority is authorised or obliged to do so on the basis of a statutory provision.
  • Your personal data will not be processed or stored outside the European Union.
