Noorderzijlvest Water Authority processes personal data for the purpose of performing statutory and public tasks. We ensure that your personal data is used in accordance with privacy legislation, the General Data Protection Regulation, and only for the purposes for which you have provided it. Use of personal data by the water board

We sometimes use personal data to carry out our work. This includes, for example, granting permits, supervising and enforcing regulations, carrying out work on or via yourplots of land, providing compensation, or handling opinions.

  • At the start of the work, you will always be informed about the processing of your data, the purpose of this, and your rights.
  • We do not make your personal data available and do not use it for automated decision-making.

The following personal data may be recorded or processed:

  • Date of birth
  • Residential address
  • Social security number (SSN)
  • The cadastral data
  • Phone number
  • Email address

Your rights

You have a number of rights when the water authority uses your personal data.

  • Right to withdraw personal data: you have the right to withdraw your previously given consent for the processing of personal data.
  • Right to information: you have the right to ask why your personal data is needed, what happens to it, and how long it is stored.
  • Right of access: you have the right to know what personal data the water authority holds about you.
  • Right to rectification: you have the right to supplement, correct, delete, or block your personal data whenever you wish.
  • Right to be forgotten: after giving the water authority permission to process your data, you have the right to have your personal data deleted.
  • Right to transfer your data: you have the right to request your personal data from the controller (e.g., the water authority) and transfer it to another controller.
  • Right to object: you have the right to object to the processing of your data by the water authority. We will comply with this request unless there are legitimate grounds for processing that data.

When submitting your request, it is important that we can verify your identity. This ensures that only you can request your data. To do this, we ask you to:

  • Send us a copy of your ID. Your name and date of birth must be clearly legible on it. You may obscure your social security number (SSN).
  • State the purpose of your request on the copy, for example, the deletion of your data.

What can you expect from us?

If you wish to exercise your right(s), you will receive a response within one month. In some cases, the response period may be extended by up to two months. In any case, you will always receive a response to your question, report, or complaint.

Duties and responsibilities of the water board

  • We have a duty to handle your personal data carefully and confidentially and to protect it as well as possible against unauthorized access (hackers) or unlawful use.
  • Your personal data will not be used for any other purposes.
  • In cases where we are required to do so, we will inform you about the use of your data and, where necessary, we will ask for your consent before your personal data is processed.
  • We take the necessary security measures and apply security procedures to protect your personal data. Employees of the water board are bound by a duty of confidentiality. Access to personal data is only granted to authorized employees.
  • We do not retain your personal data longer than necessary for the proper performance of our tasks and compliance with legal obligations (as set out in the Public Records Act, the General Data Protection Regulation, or other relevant legislation).
  • We will not disclose your personal data to other organizations without your consent, unless the water authority has the authority or obligation to do so on the basis of a legal provision.
  • Your personal data will not be processed or stored outside the European Union.
