Closure of Delfzijl dike passages due to high water levels

On Saturday, January 29, we will be dealing with high tide at sea. Rijkswaterstaat predicts a water level of NAP +3.20 in Delfzijl around 8:40 p.m. This means that the dike passages (coupures) in Delfzijl will be closed.

We will start closing the sluices at 5 p.m. This will result in the temporary closure of the port of Delfzijl. Traffic will be diverted using signs. Once the water has receded sufficiently and the road is clear of water, the roads will be reopened.
The closures in Delfzijl always occur when the expected sea level is NAP + 3m or higher. We carry out these closures in collaboration with our colleagues from the Hunze en Aa’s water board.

No dike surveillance

The expected water levels do not yet warrant scaling up to dike monitoring. We deploy dike monitoring when the expected water level reaches 3.80 m+ NAP. In that case, particular attention is paid to washed-up material that could damage the dike. However, our colleagues are on standby in case dike monitoring does become necessary.
