Closing dyke passages due to high water levels

On Saturday 29 January, we will be dealing with high water levels at sea. Rijkswaterstaat predicts a water level of NAP +3.20 in Delfzijl around 20:40. This means that the dyke passages (coupures) in Delfzijl will be closed.

We will start the closure at 17:00. This will result in the temporary closure of the port of Delfzijl. Traffic will be diverted using signs. Once the water has receded sufficiently and the road is free of water, the roads will be reopened.
The coupures in Delfzijl always close when the expected sea level is NAP + 3m or higher. We carry out these closures in collaboration with our colleagues from the Hunze en Aa's water authority .

No dyke surveillance

The expected water levels do not yet warrant escalating to dyke surveillance. We use dyke surveillance when the expected water level reaches 3.80 m+ NAP. In that case, particular attention is paid to washed-up material that may damage the dyke. However, our colleagues are on standby in case dyke surveillance becomes necessary after all.
