Closure of Delfzijl dike passages tonight at 4:00 a.m. due to high water levels
On Friday, November 24, we will be dealing with high tide at sea. Rijkswaterstaat (the Dutch Department of Waterways and Public Works) is predicting a water level of NAP +3.40 meters at around 8:30 a.m. This means that the dike passages (coupures) in Delfzijl will be closed.
We will start closing the port at 4:00 a.m. tonight. This means that the port of Delfzijl will be temporarily closed. Traffic will be diverted using signs. Once the water has receded sufficiently and the road is clear of water, the roads will be reopened.
The dike passages in Delfzijl always close when the expected sea level is NAP +3 meters or higher. The water level of NAP +3 meters is expected on Friday morning around 7:00 a.m. The protocol is to close the dike passages three hours in advance. We carry out the closure together with our colleagues from the Hunze en Aa's Water Authority.
