Update Eunice: dike monitoring will be carried out; closure of dike passages in Delfzijl from 9:30 p.m.
Rijkswaterstaat has adjusted its previous forecast. The expected highest water level at sea is NAP+ 3.90 meters at 2:10 a.m. tonight.
Due to the adjustment of the expected sea level, storm Eunice has prompted these measures in the Noorderzijlvest working area:
- The expected water levels at sea are decisive for setting up dike monitoring. The latest forecasts from Rijkswaterstaat show a highest water level of NAP+ 3.90 meters. This level is expected at 2:10 a.m. on Saturday morning. This means that the water board will deploy full dike monitoring, contrary to the earlier announcement this afternoon. Full dike monitoring is required from a water level of NAP+ 3.80 meters.
- The dike passages at the port of Delfzijl will be closed from NAP+ 3.00 meters. With the expected high tide, we will close the passages tonight from 9:30 p.m. NAP+ 3.00 meters is expected at 12:30 a.m. Traffic will be diverted with signs. We will carry out the closure with our colleagues from the Hunze en Aa's Water Board.
- The floodgates at Paterswoldsemeer were closed this afternoon. If trees on the embankment around the lake are uprooted by the storm, damage could occur. By closing the floodgates in advance, we are reducing the risk of potential flooding.
- The water board has since been able to discharge a lot of excess water into the sea. Water levels in the Noorderzijlvest working area are mostly normal and under control. However, the water level in Lauwersmeer is higher than normal. The water board expects to be able to discharge excess water again this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon.
Once the storm has subsided, an inspection round of our dikes, quays, and structures will take place tomorrow.
