Are you going to do this?

As a work planner and supervisor, you and your colleagues lay the foundation for the successful implementation of the project. From defining the scope of the project and arranging studies and permits to the start of the work: you ensure that everything is prepared down to the last detail. And yes, you occasionally visit the site yourself—because supervision is part of the job. Our projects are diverse: from repairing banks to dredging, spread across the entire area. One moment you're in the heart of Appingedam, the next you're in a meadow near Pieterburen.

Take the Startenhuizermaar, for example: due to a thick layer of silt, the water no longer flows and the bank has subsided. Within six months, dredging must be carried out and new revetment installed. You draw up the work plan, including an overview drawing and schedule. You also arrange for studies such as a waterbed survey, flora and fauna scan, and profile measurements. This allows you to determine how much silt there is, what its quality is, and what dimensions the revetment should have. Can the dredged material be processed on the meadow or does it need to be removed? And who will maintain the revetment: us or the landowner? You will find out, check the policy, and call in colleagues where necessary. In short: you are the director of the preparation and supervision!

This and much more is part of this enjoyable job:

  • Checking RAW specifications and drawing up sub-assignments within a RAW Framework Agreement (open item specifications) or drawing up work descriptions;
  • Creating overview drawings in AutoCAD;
  • Working with geographic data in ArcGIS (or willingness to learn) for conducting area analyses;
  • Preparing, requesting, and supervising various studies (such as surveying, ecological scanning, waterbed research, and checking calculations);
  • Processing research data into a work description and drawing up subprojects;
  • Preparing the permit application for the construction of bank structures;
  • Overseeing the internal process from realization to processing data in the management register of the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority after completion of the work;
  • You are responsible for safety issues in design and implementation for the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority.

You remain focused and flexible, even when the situation changes unexpectedly.

In addition, you have:

  • A vocational education (MBO+) or higher professional education (HBO) program in civil engineering and civil engineering.

About the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority

The Noorderzijlvest Water Authority is located in a unique area where land subsidence caused by natural gas extraction and earthquakes significantly affects water management. The consequences of these developments, as well as climate change, are affecting the (waste) water system. Rising sea levels, more frequent and longer periods of heavy rain, interspersed with prolonged drought, but also challenges in the field of sustainability and new (problematic) substances: these are problems that require robust solutions. We want our (waste)water system to function as naturally as possible and to be climate-proof, resilient, and healthy in the long term. This requires us to take appropriate and affordable measures in a society that wants to discuss and influence these issues.

To water authority manage the challenges facing our water authority , we are implementing organisation measures to improve our ability to work in a forward-looking and integrated manner. We believe this will provide a solid foundation for strategic thinking, enabling us to translate our plans into our daily work and carry out our tasks as efficiently as possible. This is becoming increasingly important in a changing society that demands a lot from us.
