Board of Directors recommends Roeland van der Schaaf as new dyke reeve

Van der Schaaf, 51, has served as a council member (PvdA) on the council since 2012. As a council member, he has extensive administrative experience, particularly in the field of urban planning. His portfolio includes urban development, housing, neighborhood renewal, and urban regeneration. Prior to that, he worked for a housing authority and the council.

Bert Middel's intended successor was selected by the confidential committee from 33 candidates (9 women and 24 men). Lambert Zwiers, chair of the confidential committee: "The water authority was looking for a true connector, someone who is excellent at collaborating and who can put the importance of water prominently on the national and regional agenda. The Board of Directors the recommendation to Provincial Executive the province of Groningen. The Provincial Executive will then forward it, along with their comments, to the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management. Roeland van der Schaaf is then nominated by the minister for appointment as dyke reeve royal decree. Assuming the nomination is approved, Van der Schaaf will take up his duties as dyke reeve in mid-summer.
