Beavers live in the area around the Hoornsedijk. These animals are valuable to nature, but their digging can pose risks to dykes.
Protecting dyke beaver damage
Beavers sometimes dig long tunnels below the waterline. This can dyke the stability of a dyke . That is why we are installing beaver netting at this location. This way, we protect the dyke while allowing beavers to continue living in the area.
Tree Trimming and Compensation
Where necessary, trees will be cut down to install the fencing. A compensation plan will be drawn up for this purpose, in consultation with the council , the Province of Groningen, and the Meerschap.

As water authority , we dykes to keepflood embankments dykes free of trees. Trees can dyke the stability of a dyke with their roots.
