Decisions of the Board of Directors meeting on 23 October

The Board of Directors on October 23. Among other things, the Board made the following decisions:

Preliminary survey for the second pressure pipeline between Damsterdiep and Garmerwolde

A large pressure pipeline runs from the Damsterdiep sewage pumping station in the city of Groningen to transport wastewater from households and businesses to the wastewater treatment plant in Garmerwolde. This pipeline carries 3,000 cubic metre per hour. When it rains, that figure rises significantly: 12,000 cubic meters per hour. This pipeline was commissioned in 1978. Meanwhile, many new developments are underway in and around the city of Groningen. Increasing urbanise more pressure on the capacity of the wastewater treatment plant and, consequently, on this large pressure pipeline. Climate change is adding to this challenge with peak downpours or longer periods of heavy precipitation. The pipeline is in continuous use. Therefore, inspection options are limited. To ensure the safe and future-proof disposal of wastewater, the Board of Directors Noorderzijlvest is making €100,000 available. This will enable the water authority to conduct water authority preliminary study into the possibilities and impact of constructing a second pressure pipeline.

customise Water-authority Regulation

Since the Water-authority Regulation took effect Water-authority Regulation January 2, 2024, the water authority has been able to assess water authority practical application of the new regulations reporting requirements. In practice, the water authority encounters situations that call for an update to a number regulations provisions. In some cases, there is excessive regulatory burden where it is no longer necessary or efficient. In other cases, the water authority finds water authority stricter regulations are needed to explicitly clarify responsibilities regarding, for example, maintenance or new activities. The Board of Directors approved the proposed update.
