Registering a political party for the water board elections

Would you like to run in the water board elections with your own party? If so, you must register your party’s name with the Central Election Commission at Noorderzijlvest Water Authority. The registered name will appear at the top of the list of candidates and on the ballot. The steps are briefly explained below.

Here's how to register a political party for the water board elections

Step 1. Submit a registration request

To register a political party, you must submit the following documents:

a fully completed registration request (Form G1-1);
a copy of the notarial deed containing the articles of association of the association or foundation;
proof of payment of the security deposit of €225.

Step 2. Pay the security deposit

A security deposit of €225 is required to register a political party. This amount may be transferred to the account of the “ Noorderzijlvest Water Authority ” via NL73 NWAB 0636 7555 92, noting “election security deposit” as the payment reference.

Please attach proof of payment to your application.

Step 3. Review of Your Application

Upon receipt, the central election board checks, among other things:

Whether all documents are complete;
whether the application has been signed by the authorized director(s);
whether the articles of incorporation comply with legal requirements;
whether the name (party name) can be registered.

Is your application complete?
You will then receive an acknowledgment of receipt.

Is any information missing?
You will then have the opportunity to submit any missing information or documents before the registration period closes. We therefore recommend that you submit your application well before the deadline.

Submitting Candidate Lists

After registering a political party, you can nominate candidates for the elections. To nominate candidates, you must, among other things, submit a list of candidates. Additional documents may also be required, such as:

Declarations of consent from candidates;
a copy of a valid form of identification;
statements of support (for new parties);
any authorizations.

Key Moments Leading Up to the Elections

There are several important dates leading up to the water board elections. This timeline shows you what steps will take place and when they will happen. That way, you’ll know what to expect around election time.

December 21, 2026: Deadline for registration of new parties
Would you like to run in the water board elections with a new party? If so, the party must be officially registered by this date at the latest. Parties that are already registered do not need to take any action.
February 1, 2027: Submission of candidate lists
On this day, political parties submit their candidate lists to the central election board. The lists include the candidates who will run on behalf of the party in the water board elections. After verification, the candidate lists are officially approved.
March 17, 2027: Election Day
On this day, residents cast their votes. They choose which candidates and parties will represent them for the next four years in the Board of Directors of the water authority.
March 25, 2027: Official Results of the
The election results are officially certified. From that moment on, it is clear how many seats each party has won and which candidates have been elected.
March 31, 2027: Inauguration of the New Board of the “
” The newly elected “ Board of Directors ” is officially inaugurated. Starting on this day, the new board members will begin their work for the “ water authority.”
