Fish migration excursion for interested parties at Lieversche Diep on Sunday 29 June
On Sunday, June 29, the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority is organizing an excursion on fish migration, in collaboration with Sportvisserij Nederland. Between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m., our fish experts will tell visitors all about the remarkable journey of migratory fish. These fish swim from the Wadden Sea and Lauwersmeer to the streams of Drenthe to reproduce. It is a journey that presents quite a few challenges.
Fishing for connection
On the banks of the stream, ecologist Edwin van der Pouw Kraan shows you the measures water authority the water authority to reconnect migratory fish with the streams of Drenthe. These include making weirs pumping stations'fish-passable' and redesigning the Lieversche Diep to create better conditions for migrating fish.
Return of the sea trout?
A little further on, Marcus de Boer from Sportvisserij Nederland talks about the possible return of sea trout to the Drenthe stream. The construction of gravel beds and the shallowing of the stream should help in this regard. This will create the oxygen-rich environment that trout need to lay their eggs. He also hopes to show a number of fish species that live in the stream.
