Hunsingo pumping station name of new Zoutkamp pumping station

"Gemaal Hunsingo" has been chosen as the name for the new pumping station to be built pumping station the historic Hunsingo Lock in Zoutkamp. This name was selected following a vote held late last year. Residents of Zoutkamp and the surrounding area were able to vote for one of three proposed names. In addition to Gemaal Hunsingo, Gemaal De Soltcamp and Gemaal Achter Diek were also in the running. 

With 191 out of 361 votes, the name “Gemaal Hunsingo” favourite . More than half of the voters cast their vote for this name. With 108 votes, Gemaal De Soltcamp finished in second place with just under 30%. Gemaal Achter Diek secured third place with 62 votes, or just over 17%.

Hunsingo Pumping Station

The chosen name refers to the location of the new pumping station. It is situated where the Hunsingo Canal flows into Lauwersmeer. This ensures that the connexion is connexion reflected in the name. Hunsingo was one of the three Ommelands of Groningen. It is precisely this area that will be drained by the new pumping station in the future.
