Pumps running at full capacity to drain water after severe weather
In the northwest of our region more than 90 mm of rain region within an hour this evening. The pumping stations Louwes and De Waterwolf pumping stations are operating at full capacity to discharge the excess water into the sea via the Lauwersmeer.
Torrential rain
More than 90 mm of rain fell in the area around Leens and Ulrum within an hour. This is twice the average amount of precipitation that normally falls in this region over the entire month of May. The towns of Zoutkamp and Lauwersoog also had to cope with similar amounts of rain in a short period of time. This resulted in flooded streets and very wet fields.
Measures
The water authority working hard to pump out the excess water. The weirs lowered, and pumping station pumping stations Louwes and pumping station Waterwolf pumping station are operating at full capacity. All measures are aimed at maximizing water discharge.
