Pumps running at full capacity due to elevated water levels

Heavy rainfall fell in our region on Thursday and Friday. In total, about 40 millimetre . Because the ground was already very wet, every drop of rain is watercourses in the watercourses . This has led to rising water levels. All of our pumping stations at full capacity to drain the excess water. The situation is well under control.

Our pumping stations Waterwolf, HD Louwes, Spijksterpompen, Noordpolderzijl, and De Drie Delfzijlen are currently operating at full vigour. The same applies to the peripheral pumping stations. This is partly due to the higher water levels in the Wadden Sea, which makes it more difficult for us to discharge water. A combination of rain and storm caused the water level near Delfzijl to reach a peak of NAP +2.64 metre 2:20 p.m. Closing the dyke passages Delfzijl (starting at NAP +3.00 metre) was not necessary.

A few more millimetre are forecast for the coming days. After Saturday, conditions will become drier. Water levels are expected to normalise thereafter. Starting tomorrow, we will also be able to discharge water more effectively via natural flow into the Wadden Sea.
