Pumps running at full capacity due to elevated water levels
On Thursday and Friday, there was heavy rainfall in our working area. In total, around 40 millimeters of rain fell. Because it was already very wet, every drop ended up in the waterways. This led to increased water levels. All our pumping stations are operating at full capacity to drain off the excess water. The situation is well under control.
Our pumping stations De Waterwolf, HD Louwes, Spijksterpompen, Noordpolderzijl, and De Drie Delfzijlen are currently pumping at full capacity. This also applies to the secondary pumping stations. One of the reasons for this is the higher water levels in the Wadden Sea, which makes it more difficult for us to discharge water. A combination of rain and storm caused the highest level of NAP +2.64 meters at 2:20 p.m. near Delfzijl. It was not necessary to close the dike passages in Delfzijl (from NAP +3.00 meters).
A few more millimeters of rain are forecast for the coming days. After Saturday, it will become drier. Water levels are expected to return to normal after that. From tomorrow onwards, we will also be able to discharge more freely into the Wadden Sea.
