Information evenings for (prospective) candidates in the water-authority elections
On 22 April 2026, the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority will hold an information meeting for anyone considering running in the water-authority elections on 17 March 2027. The meeting will be held from 19:30 to 21:00 at the Waterschapshuis, located at Stedumermaar 1 in Groningen.
During this evening, Dyke Reeve van der Schaaf will discuss the importance of the water-authority elections and the role of the Board of Directors in the region’s water management. “As a board member of a water authority you will be dealing with the major challenges of the water authority regarding issues such as sufficient water, clean and healthy water, waterproofing the future, and treated water. As a board member, you’ll help make decisions and make a direct contribution to your living environment,” says Van der Schaaf.
In addition to the content, the Elections Project Leader will explain the election process and training opportunities for prospective board members.
The meeting is aimed specifically at political party leaderships and members who intend to participate in the elections, but other interested parties are welcome too.
Information evenings on 6 and 13 May
On 6 and 13 May 2026, Noorderzijlvest will hold information evenings for anyone who wants to learn more about the work of a board member of a water authority.
During these sessions:
- you will receive more information about the work of the water authority;
- we will discuss the challenges faced by the water authority;
- you will participate in a democracy game, in which you will take a seat on a fictional board.
With these meetings, the Noorderzijl Water Authority aims to prepare interested individuals in the best possible way for a potential board role and to contribute to a transparent and accessible election process. You can register for the evenings at waterschapsverkiezingen@noorderzijlvest.nl.
