Annual Report 2022: positive result of €3.5 million

The general board will meet on May 31. Items on the agenda include the 2022 Annual Report and a proposal to grant a loan of more than €1 million for the maintenance of five bridges in our working area.

Annual Report 2022

The 2022 annual report shows a positive result of €3.5 million. The proposal is to add this amount to the water board's general reserve. In fact, the picture is similar to last year: thanks to windfalls in capital costs, goods, and services, and additional contributions from third parties for the processing of more sludge and wastewater, Noorderzijlvest is able to stay in the black.
In addition to the windfalls, personnel costs have increased due to factors such as illness and additional hiring. Tax revenue was also higher than budgeted as a result of higher WOZ values in our working area: +€4.3 million.
In recent years, we have seen a steady increase in the realization rate of our plans and projects. For 2021, we recorded a realization rate of 73%; for 2022, this will be 84%. The water authority is increasingly able to implement plans and projects according to schedule.

€1,032,600 to repair five bridges

The water board proposes to make €1,032,600 available for necessary maintenance on five bridges. The general board previously approved the 2019-2023 Bridge Program. The aim of this program is to bring bridges into good, safe condition. The work will be carried out in clusters, with a cluster of bridges being tackled each year. According to the schedule, 17 bridges could be completed by the end of 2023. Currently, 12 of the 17 bridges have been almost completely renovated or replaced. Work on the remaining five bridges can start after the summer holidays. This will require an additional budget of €1,032,600. The costs are higher than initially anticipated due to the enormous increase in market prices and indexation in the construction sector. This is the result of raw material shortages and high energy costs. The following bridges will be renovated in 2023: Henduurstil in Warffum, Nieuwetil near Tinallinge, Meedenertil between Aduard and Ferwerd, Idsinghertil in Niebert, and Vrouwentil near Uithuizermeeden.
The water board will continue to work on improving the bridges after 2023. According to the maintenance program, a total of 28 bridges will be renovated starting in 2019. This will ensure that all our bridges are safe and functional by 2028.
