Youth panel launched: a fresh perspective on water and waste
The Noorderzijlvest Youth Panel 2025–2026 has officially started. On September 9 and 10, the twelve young people signed up to participate and began their first assignment: litter and awareness.
Who are the young people?
The panel consists of: Tina, Wilkor-Jan, Ramon, Jan, Helenoor, Reuven, Bo, Janneke, Miranda, Jesper, Maike, and Aron. Four of them were already active members of the panel and are continuing their work. Together, they represent a diverse group of young water thinkers from the province of Groningen.

First assignment: litter
During the substantive kick-off on September 9, the young people delved into the theme of litter. They are investigating how waste ends up in the water, what the consequences are for the ecosystem, and how you can motivate young people to contribute to a cleaner living environment.
Deepening and introduction
On September 10, the young people learned more about the work of the water board and got to know each other better. It was a valuable day for building trust, cooperation, and involvement in current water issues.
Active during World Clean Up Day
On Saturday, September 20, the youth panel will be visible in the region for the first time. Together with the Lions Club Groningen and employees of the water board, they will participate in a clean-up campaign in the Noorderplantsoen during World Clean Up Day. This campaign marks the start of their involvement and is part of a broader awareness campaign leading up to the "Heart for Cleaner Water" week in June 2026.
Working together on water quality
In the coming period, the youth panel will be given at least three assignments that are in line with the water board's most important tasks. Their fresh perspective and commitment are of great value to water management in our region. We look forward to their ideas and dedication!
