Check valve installed in Kromme Raken near Schouwerzijl
Yesterday, a check valve was installed in Schouwerzijl as a closure device in the Kromme Raken. Due to climate change, the risk of flooding and water shortages is increasing. By installing a closure device in the lock, we can separate the drainage areas of the H.D. Louwes pumping station in Zoutkamp and the De Waterwolf pumping station in Lammerburen in extreme situations and make better use of their capacity.

Restoration of bridge and lock
The installation of the closure device is part of the work in Schouwerzijl, where we are working on both the bridge and the lock itself. We are renovating the lock and have already repaired the Schouwerzijlsterbrug bridge. The bridge deck has been renewed. Together with the municipality of Het Hogeland and the Schouwerzijl Village Interest Association, the harbor area is being redesigned. We expect to be able to complete most of the work by the end of July 2022.
