Check valve installed in Kromme Raken near Schouwerzijl

Yesterday, a check valve was installed in Schouwerzijl as a shut-off device in the Kromme Raken. Due to climate change, the risk of flooding and water shortages is increasing. By installing a shut-off device in the lock, we ensure that in extreme situations we can separate the drainage areas of the pumping station .D pumping station Louwes pumping station in Zoutkamp and pumping station Waterwolf pumping station in Lammerburen and utilise better utilise their capacity.

Restoration of the bridge and lock

The installation of the closure mechanism is part of the work being carried out in Schouwerzijl, where we are working on both the bridge and the lock itself. We are renovating the lock and have already repaired the Schouwerzijlsterbrug. The bridge deck has been replaced. Together with the council and the Schouwerzijl Village Interest Association, the port area is being redesigned. We expect to have most of the work finalise by the end of July 2022.
