Climate-friendly companies benefit from contract awards
Companies that operate in a climate-friendly manner are more likely to be awarded a contract by the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority. The water authority uses the CO2 performance ladder in its tendering procedures. Those who reduce CO2 emissions receive more points. This helps them to win the contract. Noorderzijlvest itself is also certified for the CO2 performance ladder.
CO2 performance ladder
The CO2 performance ladder is a tool that helps companies and governments reduce CO2 emissions. Noorderzijlvest has level 3 on the performance ladder. The water board ensures that less CO2 is released during work within its own organization. For example, it has insight into energy policy and energy-saving measures. Examples include the use of solar panels and electric machines, making buildings sustainable, and using energy-efficient pumps.
Sustainable working throughout the entire chain
Bas Tammes, secretary-director of the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority: "We are striving to be climate neutral by 2035. This means that we will no longer emit CO2 in our work. We also want the companies we work with to reduce their emissions. This is good for us and for the entire sector, which can improve as a result."
The Noorderzijlvest Water Authority uses the ladder as an award criterion for tenders for works above €150,000. In addition, the water authority is also investigating whether the CO2 performance ladder is a suitable condition for awarding tenders for supplies and services above €50,000.
Award advantage
All government bodies will be certified for the performance ladder, including municipalities and provinces. This makes it possible to ensure that suppliers work more sustainably in tenders. Companies can reduce their emissions on five levels of the ladder. Suppliers who ensure lower CO2 emissions in their tasks and activities (level 3) will be given an advantage in the awarding of contracts. The water board will award extra points to suppliers at level 4 or 5. These companies also contribute to sustainability within the chain.
