Come along to this year's final water expedition!
On Wednesday evening, November 19, the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority is organizing this year's final water expedition at the 't Spectrum community center in Sebaldeburen. Close to the sewage treatment plant in Gaarkeuken, residents and local residents will be given a unique glimpse behind the scenes. Discover how we are working to ensure clean water and build the treatment plant of the future!

The journey of water
Every day, we use millions of liters of water. But what happens after we flush the toilet or brush our teeth? That water eventually ends up back in our surface water. Before that happens, it must be thoroughly cleaned. We do this in our sewage treatment plants, such as the one in Gaarkeuken. There, we remove pollution and valuable substances from the water so that it can be returned to nature clean and safe.
The program
We start with a visual tour and show our 3D film The Value of Water. In this film, you can see how water affects our daily lives. You will learn how wastewater is treated and what substances we remove from it, such as medicine residues.
We talk about sustainability and smart technologies
Discover how we not only clean wastewater, but also convert it into something valuable. You will see how we reuse materials and what innovative techniques we use to prevent waste. You will also hear how we continue to purify water while we build the new treatment plant in Gaarkeuken—a behind-the-scenes look at a unique project.
Why this expedition is important
Only 0.25% of all water on earth is suitable for drinking. Harmful substances in water are bad for our health and the environment. That is why we are working together to find solutions. You can help too: if you don't flush it down the toilet, we don't have to remove it.
Ask our experts your questions
After the tour, you can talk to employees of the water board. Do you have any questions or would you like to know more? We would be happy to talk to you.
