Come to the WEC in Lauwersoog for a fun day learning about fish migration on Saturday 23 May

On Saturday 23 May, Noorderzijlvest Water Authority will participate in the biennial World Fish Migration Day. We’ll be in the free-access foyer of the WEC (Wadden Sea World Heritage Center) in Lauwersoog from 10:00 to 15:00. There, we’ll show visitors everything we do to help fish find their way from the sea to the streams.

What's there to do?

Our ecologist will discuss topics such as the freshwater-saltwater connection in Lauwersmeer, stream restoration, and making our weirs pumping stations fish-passable. There’s also a Klokhuis video about fish migration between the Cleveringsluizen and the Lieversche Diep. Visitors can have their picture taken with their favorite (stuffed) fish—eel, flounder, sea trout, and stickleback—and for children, there’s a fun story about four fish friends trying to find their way to the stream. For children, there’s also a fun fishing activity booklet with puzzles and coloring pages. And of course, it’s also a great opportunity to visit the seals at the WEC and take a leisurely stroll around the harbour Lauwersoog.

A fun and educational outing for all ages—and a wonderful start to the Whitsun weekend!
