More water discharge to the Wadden Sea in the coming days
We can continue to discharge more water into the Wadden Sea until Friday.
20 million cubic meters discharged into the sea
On Wednesday afternoon, we were able to discharge about 20 (!) million cubic meters of water into the sea via the Clevering Sluices near Lauwersoog. That is significantly higher than earlier forecasts today.
Over the next few days, conditions will be favourable discharging excess water into the Wadden Sea. This will be possible until Friday. After that, a strong (partly) southerly wind is expected. This will limit the ability to discharge water until January 2.
About 34 millimetre is expected in our region over the next few days. With the current water discharge, space is being created in the watercourses again. This means the situation will remain manageable even with the expected precipitation.
De Onlanden
In the largest water level section of washlands Onlanden nature and washlands , the water level is currently between -0.40 m and -0.30 m below sea level. With its current capacity, De Onlanden can handle a water level of -0.20 m below sea level. The water level is certainly high there, as is clearly visible in the area.
