More water discharge to the Wadden Sea in the coming days

Until Friday, we can discharge more water into the Wadden Sea.

20 million cubic meters to the sea

On Wednesday afternoon, we were able to discharge around 20 million cubic meters of water into the sea via the Cleveringsluizen locks at Lauwersoog. That is considerably higher than expected earlier today.
Conditions will remain favorable for discharging excess water into the Wadden Sea over the coming days. This will be possible until Friday, when strong (partly) southerly winds are expected. This will limit the possibilities for discharge until January 2.
Approximately 34 millimeters of precipitation is expected in our working area in the coming days. With the current discharge of water, space is being created in the waterways again. This means that the situation will remain manageable even with the expected precipitation.

The Unlands

In the largest gauge station in the De Onlanden nature and storage area, the water level is now between NAP -0.40 m and NAP -0.30 m. De Onlanden can handle a water level of NAP -0.20 m with its current capacity. So the water is certainly high there. This is clearly visible in the area.
