If you are on a low income, you may not have to pay water rates or your rates may be less. Whether you are granted an exemption depends on your personal situation.

Who can apply for an exemption

The most important conditions you have to meet to qualify for an exemption are:

  • You have an income at or around benefits level.
  • You have few or no assets, such as savings.
  • You must apply for an exemption within three months of having paid your water bill.

How does the procedure work?

  • The Noordelijk Belastingkantoor takes a decision within a maximum of six months and sends you a notification.
  • You do not need to pay while your application is being processed. If you use direct debit, payments will continue as usual.
