Lead-free fishing at first VISparel in Leek

On Thursday afternoon, September 1, the first VISparel in the Oostindie neighborhood in Leek was officially opened. The VISparel is a place where people can enjoy themselves in and around the water. The starting point is easily accessible and fishable water with a good chance of a nice catch. One of the measures is lead-free fishing.

Jeroen Niezen, executive board member of the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority, Harry Stomphorst, alderman of the Municipality of Westerkwartier, and Henk Mensinga, director of Sportvisserij Groningen Drenthe, opened this VISparel by unveiling the VISparel information board at De Knip near the pond.

Lead-free fishing

The VISparel was created by Sportvisserij Groningen Drenthe and is part of the so-called Green Deal, in which water boards, among others, want to reduce the use of fishing weights by anglers by offering environmentally friendly alternatives. VISparels offer an excellent opportunity for this.

Sportvisserij Drenthe Groningen, the municipality, and the water board work together to ensure good infrastructure and water quality with attractive fish stocks. Sportvisserij Groningen Drenthe is in the process of creating several VISparels. In Leek, Roden, Tynaarlo, and Klazienaveen, the VISparels are ready to be put into use. Leek is leading the way.
