Lead-free fishing at first VISparel in Leek

On the afternoon of Thursday, September 1, the first VISparel in the Oostindie neighborhood of Leek was officially opened. The VISparel is a place where people can enjoy the water and its surroundings. The basic concept is to provide easily accessible waters suitable for fishing, with a good chance of a nice catch. One of the measures in place is lead-free fishing.

Jeroen Niezen, a member of the executive board of Noorderzijlvest Water Authority; Harry Stomphorst, alderman for the Municipality of Westerkwartier; and Henk Mensinga, director of Sportvisserij Groningen Drenthe, officially opened this VISparel by unveiling the VISparel information sign at De Knip near the pond.

Lead-free fishing

The VISparel realised Sportvisserij Groningen Drenthe and is part of the so-called Green Deal, under which, in collaboration with water boards and others, they aim to reduce the use of lead weights by recreational anglers by offering environmentally friendly alternatives. VISparels provide an excellent opportunity to do so.
