We are organising an inspiring meeting for our partners and stakeholders in the run-up to our new water management programme.

Keynote speaker: Jeroen de Willigen

Jeroen de Willigen takes us on a journey to discover how we can combine the climate challenge and the major spatial challenges we face. Jeroen is an urban planner, partner at design agency De Zwarte Hond, and chairman of the BNA (Royal Association of Dutch Architects). From 2015 to 2021, he was city architect for Groningen Council.

Our intention

Water determines how we live, work, build, and organise our region. The choices we make to give water and soil a voice in the coming years will determine how future-proof our living environment will be. We are looking ahead together: where do we stand as a region, which developments affect us, and which direction will we choose for the new Water Management Programme?

During this meeting, we will explore the dilemmas we face and the opportunities and collaborations needed to keep our area safe, climate-resilient, and livable. We will actively seek connections between the tasks of the water authority and those of other partners and stakeholders.

Water management affects your work much more often than you may think: from spatial development and energy to nature, health, the economy, and agriculture. That is precisely why we want to discuss where our tasks overlap and how we can strengthen each other.

Location

EM2, Suikerlaan 6 in Groningen

Time

Doors open at 9:00; start at 9:15. End of meeting at 13:00.

Public consultation and decision-making

During the process of creating the new Water Management Programme, there will be opportunities to exchange ideas with us about the content of the draft WMP. We will organise this internally and externally. A number of meetings have been planned with the Executive Board and Board of Directors review the results so far and prepare choices.
Ultimately, this will lead to a 'Draft Water Management Programme'. The Executive Board will decide to make this available for inspection at the beginning of 2027 for the formal public consultation process.
At the end of 2027, the Board of Directors will adopt the new Water Management Programme 2028-2033.
