Less capacity needed for excess water drainage

Although our capacity is slightly lower than it was last Christmas week, we are continuing to drain water. A large amount of water is still on its way from Drenthe toward Groningen.

We’re still pumping water out these days. We can do so at a slightly reduced capacity. A lot of water is still flowing from the higher-lying areas in Drenthe toward the lower-lying northern regions. This is clearly visible in De Onlanden (see photo).
On New Year’s Eve, we expect another good opportunity for drainage at Lauwersoog. Starting January 2–3, the wind appears to be shifting more to the east. This means less precipitation and favorable conditions for draining excess water.
Please note: this forecast is still very uncertain at this time. We are monitoring the situation closely.
