Request compensation

You may suffer damage as a result of what the water authority or does not do, even though we naturally try to prevent this. Do you believe you have suffered damage as a result of the work of the water authority? To apply for compensation, you can use the Compensation for damage form.

Who can apply for compensation for damages? 

Do you believe you have suffered damage as a result of the work carried out by the water authority? For example, a reduction in the value of your home due to dyke reinforcement, a reduced view, or a loss of turnover for your business? If so, you can apply for compensation for damages.

It is important to distinguish between:

  • Damage resulting from the implementation of a decision by the water authority a lawful act of government)
  • Other types of damage

In the case of other damage, you cannot claim compensation for loss. However, it is possible to file a claim for damages.

What do you need? 

  • For personal use DigiD level medium.
  • For organisations with eHerkenning level EH2+.

A request for compensation for damages must in any case contain the following information: 

  • Name and address of the person submitting the request
  • Date of the request
  • A description of the action or decision by the water authority caused the damage (e.g., constructing a dyke flooding a washlands).
  • A description and substantiation of the damage

How does it work? 

  • Use the form to submit your claim for compensation.
  • There are no costs associated with submitting a claim for compensation.
  • For example, if you engage an expert to assist you, you may be responsible for these costs.

Please state clearly:

  • Your name and address
  • The date of request
  • A description of the action or decision by the water authority caused the damage
  • A description and substantiation of the damage
  • Your signature

How does the procedure work? 

  • You will receive confirmation of receipt of your request. You can read more about processing times in our service standards.
  • You will then receive a letter explaining the next steps in the procedure.
  • Please note that processing your request for compensation for damages may take several months.
  • Your request for compensation for damages will be submitted to an independent advisor.
  • This advisor provides advice to the executive committee.
  • The executive committee will then decide on your request for compensation for damages based on this advice, among other things.

Disagree with the decision? 

If the water authority rejects water authority request for compensation for damages and you disagree with this decision, you can lodge an objection within six weeks of the date of your decision. Please use the objection form for this purpose.
