Request compensation for loss
You may suffer damage as a result of something the water authority does or does not do, even though we naturally try to prevent this. Do you believe you suffered damage as a result of the work of the water authority? To apply for compensation, you can use the Compensation for loss form.
Who can request compensation for loss?
Do you believe you suffered damage as a result of work carried out by the water authority? For example, a reduction in the value of your home due to dyke reinforcement, a reduced view, or a loss of turnover for your business? If so, you can request compensation for loss.
It is important to distinguish between:
- Damage resulting from the implementation of a decision by the water authority (a lawful act of government)
- Other types of damage
In the case of other damage, you cannot request compensation for loss. However, it is possible to submit a claim for damage.
What do you need?
- For personal use: DigiD medium level.
- For organisations: eHerkenning level EH2+.
A request for compensation for loss always contains the following information:
- Name and address of the person submitting the request
- Date of the request
- A description of the action or decision by the water authority that caused the damage (e.g., constructing a dyke or flooding washlands).
- A description and substantiation of the damage
How does it work?
- Use the compensation for loss form
- There are no costs associated with submitting a claim for compensation for loss.
- For example, if you engage an expert to assist you, you may be responsible for these costs.
Written request for compensation for loss
If you prefer to submit your request in writing, please send your request for compensation for loss to:

Please state clearly:
- Your name and address
- The date of the request
- A description of the action or decision by the water authority that caused the damage
- A description and substantiation of the damage
- Your signature
How does the procedure work?
- You will receive confirmation of receipt of your request. You can read more about processing times in our service standards.
- You will then receive a letter explaining the next steps in the procedure.
- Please note that processing your request for compensation for loss may take a few months.
- Your request for compensation for loss is submitted to an independent advisor.
- This advisor provides advice to the Executive Board.
- The Executive Board will then decide on your request for compensation for loss based on this advice, among other things.
Disagree with the decision?
If the water authority rejects your request for compensation for loss and you disagree with this decision, you can submit an objection within six weeks of the date of your decision. Please use the objection form.
