In 2024, a new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) will be commissioned in Gaarkeuken. This new wastewater treatment plant will replace the current plants in Marum, Zuidhorn, and Gaarkeuken. In this newsletter, we will keep you informed of the work and developments within this project.

Wastewater is treated at the Garmerwolde wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). After treatment, sewage sludge remains as a residual product. In 2021, the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority commissioned a study into how the transfer and disposal of this sewage sludge can be carried out in a sustainable, reliable, and efficient manner. This newsletter will keep you informed of the progress.

The lock complex with two bridges, known as 'De Aduarderzijlen', is inmoderate condition. It is thereforebeing restored. In addition to the restoration, there are also ideas to make the area more attractive for recreation. To this end, we are in contact and consultation with the village of Aduarderzijl.
