Subsidies still available for farmers in the Groningen section of the Noorderzijlvest water board

There is still room for new participants in the subsidy scheme 'Implementation incentive for water and soil quality'. Together with the province of Groningen, the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority has made more than €1 million in subsidies available to farmers.

Update July 2022

At present, more applications have been received than there is funding available. New applications will therefore be placed on a waiting list.

Subsidy scheme

This subsidy enables farmers to invest in materials, machinery, or soil with the aim of improving the quality of surface water and soil. The subsidy scheme is in line with the objectives of the Delta Plan for Agricultural Water Management (DAW).

Investments in water and soil quality

These investments ensure:

  • Healthier and more fertile soil (among other things by increasing organic matter, improving soil structure, or applying non-inversion tillage);
  • More precise agriculture (including GPS technology, soil scanning);
  • Improved water management (including with the help of level-controlled drainage or small dams);
  •  Less yard runoff (by purchasing wastewater treatment systems or collecting juices from roughage storage);
  • Less runoff of crop protection products (including through investments in spraying techniques that prevent crop protection products from being blown away).

Subsidy for farmers in our management area

Within the project, subsidies are available for at least 120 farmers who make investments. Farmers in the management area of the Noorderzijlvest Groningen Water Authority can still apply. A subsidy of up to 40% can be applied for on all physical measures mentioned in the list of measures – with the exception of farm layout measures and/or purification systems – up to a maximum amount of €10,000 per farm.
