Maintenance of R.J. Cleveringsluizen

In April 2017, major maintenance work began on the R.J. Cleveringsluizen locks in Lauwersoog. We are replacing the guides for the lift gates and the counterweights for one of the 12 discharge pipes. To do this, we are draining the pipe. We can then clean and inspect it immediately.

Why dry out?

The guides for the lift gates are worn and need to be replaced. To do this, we need to drain the culvert. We can then immediately remove any growth from the concrete culvert, inspect it, and carry out any necessary concrete repairs. Over the coming years, we will drain one culvert each year for major maintenance, until all twelve have been done.
