Maintenance of R.J. Clevering locks

In April 2017, major maintenance work began on the R.J. Clevering locks in Lauwersoog. We are replacing the guide rails for the lift gates and the counterweights for one of the 12 discharge sluices. To do this, we are draining the sluice. We can then clean and inspect it immediately.

Why dry out?

The guide rails for the lift gates are worn and need to be replaced. To do this, we need to drain the sluice. We can will use that opportunity to remove any growth from the concrete sluice, inspect it, and carry out any necessary concrete repairs. Over the coming years, we will drain one sluice per year for a major overhaul, until all twelve have been done.
