Discover water management from Lauwersoog by boat and bus!

On Thursday, 18 September, the Wadden Sea World Heritage Centre (WEC) organises a special excursion through the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority region. Under the title “No Safe Lauwersmeer or Hinterland Without Water Management,” the tour will depart from Lauwersoog.

Travel by boat and bus

Aboard a classic white school bus from “Opweg in Het Hogeland” and the former lifeboat “De Gebroeders Luden,” participants will embark on an adventurous tour through the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority region. Guides from the water authority take you across land and water, explaining the importance of water management in this region along the way. For tickets, visit Agenda - WEC Wadden Sea

Excursion from Lauwersoog to De Waterwolf

The excursion starts at the WEC in Lauwersoog. The group is split up: one half boards the lifeboat 'De Gebroeders Luden' and sails via Zoutkamp to De Waterwolf pumping station. Along the way, a guide talks about water management in the lake Lauwersmeer area. The other half travels by school bus along picturesque back roads. Here too, a guide is present to explain hydraulic-engineering work and the landscape along the way and on site.

De Waterwolf pumping station and lunch

Upon arrival at the listed building De Waterwolf pumping station, participants will be given a tour and an explanation by the managers. After lunch, the groups will switch modes of transport and make the trip in the opposite direction.
The total duration of the excursion is approximately 5.5 hours. Lunch is included. For tickets, see Agenda - WEC Wadden Sea.

Collaboration

The boat and bus tour titled “No Safe Lauwersmeer or Hinterland Without Water Management” is a collaboration between the WEC, the Foundation for the Preservation of the Gebroeders Luden Lifeboat, Opweg in Het Hogeland, and Noorderzijlvest Water Authority.
