Draft Water Management Program 2022–2027 available for public review

The Executive Board of Noorderzijlvest Water Authority publicises the draft water management program will be available for public review from July 8 through August 26, 2021.

What does a water management program include?

Every six years, water authorities develop a water management program. This program outlines the goals we are working toward and the general measures needed for the water system, flood defences the water supply chain. This programme from 2022 through 2027. In this water management program, we are implementing the first steps of the Blue Environmental Vision, our long-term vision. We outline our goals, how we intend to achieve them, why we are doing this, and who we are collaborating with. Much of what we will do is mandated by law. We have determined how we will carry out our work by engaging in dialogue with residents and partners over the past period. We will follow up on this as we develop the program.

Water Framework Directive

Water boards play a key role in improving water quality. The European Water Framework Directive (WFD) serves as the basis for this. The measures we will implement under the WFD are outlined in the so-called WFD fact sheets. These are included as an appendix to the Water Management Program. The WFD fact sheets have now been made available for public review.

The measures are aligned with the WFD objectives established by the provinces of Drenthe and Groningen. The objectives and measures of all water managers at the river basin level are included in draft river basin management plans. Public consultation on these plans will also be possible in the near future. This process is being coordinated by both provinces. More information about the Water Framework Directive and the public review of the draft river basin management plans can be found on the website www.helpdeskwater.nl/kaderrichtlijnwater
