Development outlook for the Novex area in Groningen
The national government designated 16 areas where the spatial planning challenges faced by local and regional authorities are so extensive, complex, and interrelated that they require joint coordination between the national government and the region. Noorderzijlvest Water Authority contributes to the initiatives in the Novex Area in Groningen.
Joining forces
In order to deal with these challenges effectively, the national government and the regions are joining forces and working area-specific. In all Novex areas (National Environmental Vision Extra), long-term cooperation is taking place with a joint development perspective, implementation agenda, and investment agenda.
In the Novex area of Groningen (now combined with the Seaports Master Plan into a single project), there is an accumulation of large-scale energy-related and economic developments, social challenges, subsidence, climate challenges, and the effects of gas extraction. Therefore, the national government, the provincial executive of Groningen, the councils of Groningen, Het Hogeland, Midden-Groningen, and Eemsdelta, and the Hunze en Aa's and Noorderzijlvest water authorities have joined forces to work together on the integrated development of this Novex area and for joint area-specific development and implementation.
Development perspective
In June 2025, a development perspective was established and work can begin on implementation. For more information about the area and the development perspective, visit the website of the Province of Groningen: NOVEX - Province of Groningen NOVEX - Province of Groningen
