Open Day for residents on World Fish Migration Day
On May 25, the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority is organizing an open house for residents and other interested parties, young and old, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The location chosen for the event is the R.J. Cleveringsluizen and the port of Lauwersoog.
Importance of free-flowing rivers
The focus is on fish migration in our streams, rivers, and canals. This is a topic that is high on the agenda at the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority. The occasion is World Fish Migration Day, which will take place for the fifth time on May 25. Events are organized around the world on this day to draw attention to the importance of free-flowing rivers for migratory fish.
Unique glimpse into the R.J. Clevering locks
The locks in Lauwersoog form the gateway to the northern Netherlands for fish coming in from the sea. Activities have been organized throughout the harbor. Visitors can take a unique look inside one of the immense discharge pipes under the R.J. Clevering locks.
In the photo with your favorite fish
Further along in the harbor, filmmaker Arthur de Bruin talks about his award-winning documentary "Nederland Onder Water" (The Netherlands Under Water). Participants can also look into the eyes of various types of migratory fish and have their picture taken with their favorite fish (life-size). Fish experts talk about the importance of Lauwersmeer as a nature reserve.
Boat trip
From the harbor in Lauwersoog, 't Ailand organizes boat excursions, during which plankton is fished in the Wadden Sea and Lauwersmeer.
