Public meeting

On 15 September, Noorderzijlvest Water Authority organises a public meeting about clean and healthy water in our region. During this meeting, the water authority will provide feedback on the input gathered from partners during previous sessions, and residents and local partners will once again discuss measures for the upcoming planning period of the 2028–2033 River Basin Management Plan (RBMP4).

Together, we're working to ensure clean and healthy water for the future

Clean and healthy water is essential for a livable environment. The Water Authority works every day to create nature-friendly riverbanks, restore streams, treat wastewater, and detect pollution. Yet there is still work to be done. That is why Noorderzijlvest is involving residents, businesses (including agriculture and industry), and other partners in shaping the new planning period.

The meeting will take place on September 15, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the atrium of the “ Noorderzijlvest Water Authority,” located at Stedumermaar 1 in Groningen. Residents and partners can register through September 1 at h.j.bijma@noorderzijlvest.nl.
 

Meeting topics

The meeting will focus on a variety of topics. Visitors can join the following interactive theme tables:

Theme table: Substances

How do substances end up in the water, what does that mean for ecological quality, and what are the possible solutions? Experts discuss source investigation, toxicity, and raising awareness.

Theme table: Ecological management and maintenance

This table focuses on ecological mowing and removal management, high-quality dredging, and the control of invasive species. Participants explore how management and maintenance can contribute to a healthy water system.

Theme table: Awareness

This table aims to raise awareness among residents and businesses—such as agricultural busniesses, industrial companies, and garden centres—of the risks and consequences of harmful substances and invasive plant and animal species. Residents are invited to contribute their own ideas and solutions, share their experiences, and engage in discussion with each another on these topics.
