Lake Paterswoldsemeer water level regulation plan finalised

On 6 July 2022, the Board of Directors of the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority adopted the lake Paterswoldsemeer Water Level Regulation Plan.

Water Level Decision

Lake Paterswoldsemeer is located on the southern edge of the city of Groningen. The lake is important for recreational purposes, but it often experiences blue-green algae blooms and has a lot of vegetation. In the Water Level Regulation Plan the water authority the water levels water authority be maintained in the various water level zones. The explanatory notes accompanying this decision describe the water system, the assessment process, input from the local community, the choices made, and the rationale for the water levels. The explanatory notes also outline the measures used to customised the water system.

Lake Paterswoldsemeer Area Programme Project

Lake Paterswold is an important recreational area for the city of Groningen and the surrounding region. To ensure that people can continue to enjoy swimming and boating, we want a lake with clean water, good natural values, a wide variety of plants and animals, minimal blue-green algae, and without too many water plants causing problems. The water authority to improve the lake’s water quality in accordance with the Water Framework Directive (WFD).
