Blue-green algae pilot project in lake Kardingerplas
We monitor the quality of the swimming water from April 1 to October 1. We do not know how the water quality changes from October to April. This is important to know because we want to gain a better understanding of the cause of the high levels of blue-green algae. That is why we will continue to take measurements during this period as well. For now, we are conducting this as a pilot project until April 1, 2022.
Since it is currently outside the swimming season, we will not post warning signs at the lake if the levels are too high.

Swimming Water Quality Monitoring During the Summer Season
We monitor the quality of the swimming water from April 1 through October 1. As part of this process, we also check for the presence of blue-green algae in the lake. During the summer months, we often see blue-green algae levels rise to unsafe levels. When this happens, we advise the province to post warning signs.
Swimming in surface water
Swimming in surface waters always carries risks. Water quality that is good today may be poor tomorrow, for example due to a change in wind direction. More information on swimming water
