Public Annual Report 2023
We are proud to present our public annual report for 2023: ‘The value of water’. In this report, we focus on the background to our work on water.
2023 was a remarkable year in which the value of water became abundantly clear.
- Of course, there were the water board elections: a higher turnout, newly elected political parties in the general administration, and a coalition agreement with strong
ambitions to emphasize the value of water. New climate scenarios from the KNMI leave no
doubt about the changing conditions we have to face: Summers are becoming
drier. Winters are becoming wetter. - This forecast for the coming years proved accurate immediately, with 2023 becoming one of the wettest years ever recorded. Our water system can cope with periods of prolonged rainfall, but we can only manage this thanks to the tireless efforts of our people and our machines.
- In this annual report, one year after the elections, the new executive board members and the dike reeve look ahead: Annette van Velde, Herman Beerda, Arie van Wijk, Bert Wiersema, and Roeland van der Schaaf take the reader to various locations in the Noorderzijlvest working area. These places and their stories illustrate the value of water for our administrators, each in their own portfolio.
