Regional Energy Strategy 1.0 is ready

The Regional Energy Strategy 1.0 for the Drenthe region is now complete. It sets out the goal of generating a quarter of Drenthe’s energy consumption through large-scale solar and wind energy by 2030. That amounts to 3.45 terawatt-hours (TWh). The municipal councils, Provincial Council water board executive boards have until July 1, 2021, to make a decision regarding the ambitions and agreements outlined in RES 1.0.

The RES 1.0 is the result of collaboration between companies, social partners, young people, network operators, and governments. Recommendations from residents have also been incorporated into the RES 1.0.

The Drenthe energy region is one of thirty energy regions in the Netherlands. Each region develops an RES. This describes the contribution to the Climate Agreement's target of generating 35 TWh of electricity in the Netherlands by 2030 through wind energy and large-scale solar energy. It also indicates the significance of the contribution to theenergy infrastructure. Furthermore, as part of the RES, each region is producing a Regional Heat Structure (RSW). This involves regional coordination of heat demand and the sustainable heat supply.
