Collaboration on Hoornsedijk and Meerweg
The work on the Hoornsedijk and the Meerweg is part of a broader approach in the area. Together with the Groningen provincial executive and the council, we are working to create a safe flood embankment and better protection for wildlife along the Meerweg.
Working together to create a safe and nature-friendly Meerweg
We are working with the Groningen provincial executive and the council to make the Meerweg wildlife-resistant. We also want to protect the flood embankment along this road from digging beavers.
Protecting the flood embankment from beavers
As part of this project, Noorderzijlvest Water Authority is responsible for installing beaver mesh in the flood embankment. This measure protects the flood embankment from digging damage caused by beavers, and ensures a safe and strong flood defence.
Safe crossing for animals
For the Groningen provincial executive, Noorderzijlvest Water Authority is installing a wildlife crossing to allow animals to cross safely and prevent traffic accidents. Implementation of this component is currently scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
