Closure of Delfzijl dike passages tonight at 11:30 p.m. due to high tide
During the night of Sunday, January 14, to Monday morning, January 15, we will be dealing with high tide at sea. Rijkswaterstaat (the Dutch Department of Waterways and Public Works) predicts a water level of NAP +3.00 meters around 2:30 a.m. This means that the dike passages (coupures) in Delfzijl will close.
We will start closing the harbor at 11:30 p.m. tonight. This will result in the temporary closure of the port of Delfzijl. Traffic will be diverted using signs. Once the water has receded sufficiently and the road is clear of water, the roads will be reopened.
The dike passages in Delfzijl always close when the expected sea level is NAP + 3 meters or higher. The water level of NAP +3 meters is expected on Sunday night around 2:30 a.m. The protocol is to close the dike passages three hours in advance. We carry out the closure together with our colleagues from the Hunze en Aa’s Water Authority.
